Congress leader Himmat Singh who had contested from Ambala City against BJP’s Aseem Goel, came in support of Nirmal Singh in Ambala City.

On Thursday, Nirmal Singh, a former minister, had announced he along with his daughter Chitra would file nomination as independent candidates. Nirmal alleged the senior Congress leadership had backstabbed them.

Meanwhile, Congress nominees Venu Aggarwal from Ambala Cantonment and Jasbir Mallour from Ambala City also filed their nomination papers on Friday. After filing nomination, Chitra said that she is fully prepared to fight against BJP leader Anil Vij.

“We will go to the public with real issues. Ambala is one of the biggest markets and it is struggling for survival due to economic pressure. Ambala is a hub of scientific industry but the workforce here has declined by around 35%-40%. Ambala Cantonment MLA Anil Vij has done nothing for the industry. He is also the sports minister but could not bring any sports academy to Ambala,” Chitra said.

Chitra said, “I have resigned from the Congress. Although we will always remain Congressmen, we have locked the Congress Bhawan in Ambala Cantt and handed over its keys to the party.” “The workers associated with us are supporting. Tickets have not been distributed on merit but on personal choices of selection committee in the Congress,” alleged Chitra.

On the other hand, Nirmal filed his nomination papers from Ambala City seat. He said, “The Congress selection committee and leadership backstabbed us. We have been working hard on the ground in the region.”
