30,299 MT of bajra purchased at 3 mandis; Haryana procurement stands at 390,404 MT
Gurgaon: Around 30,299 metric tonnes (MT) of bajra (millets) have been purchased in the district so far, at a minimum support price of Rs 2,625.The purchase of bajra — most of which is produced in Haryana's southern parts — is being carried out at the district's Sohna, Pataudi and Farrukhnagar mandis.So far, the state govt has procured 390,404 MT of bajra, usually sown between June and July and harvested between Oct and Nov.Rs 522 crore has been transferred directly into the accounts of the farmers.In Haryana, bajra is cultivated on around 10-12 lakh acres, while crop production is around 8 quintals per acre.The Mahendragarh district has seen the highest procurement with a purchase of 95,095 MT. Additionally, 85,965 MT of bajra has been procured in Rewari, 55,227 MT in Bhiwani, 33,157 MT in Gurgaon, 30,299 MT in Jhajjar, 26,142 MT in Charkhi Dadri and 19,535 MT in Mewat.Deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation (HSWC) has purchased 5,421 metric tonnes in the Farrukhnagar market, 6,000 metric tonnes in the Sohna market and 18,878 metric tonnes in the Pataudi market. A total of 14,447 farmers registered on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal have come to the markets to sell bajra. "Along with the purchase, the lifting of crops is also being carried out regularly. The HSWC has lifted 2,530 metric tonnes from the Farrukhnagar market, 3,100 metric tonnes from the Sohna market and 13,200 metric tonnes from the Pataudi market and transported them to warehouses. In total, 18,830 metric tonnes of millet have been sent to warehouse storage," the DC said.The DC said currently, 2,891 metric tonnes in the Farrukhnagar market, 2,900 metric tonnes in the Sohna market and 5,678 metric tonnes in the Pataudi market, totalling 11,469 metric tonnes of bajra, still need to be lifted from the markets.
