Days and nights get warmer in Gurgaon; thunderstorm alert still in place

Gurgaon: The city’s minimum temperature rose by over two degrees on Tuesday and the sky remained largely clear through the day despite an alert for thunderstorms, gusty winds and rainfall.

The minimum temperature at Gurgaon KVK landed at 25.4 degrees Celsius, up from 23.1 degrees Celsius on Monday. At NorthCap University, it rose from 24.4 degrees Celsius to 26.4 degrees Celsius, while Gurgaon AWS recorded a minimum temperature of 23.4 degrees Celsius.

Daytime temperatures soared, with the maximum temperature at Gurgaon KVK reaching 34.1 degrees Celsius, up from 33.7 degrees Celsius a day earlier. At NorthCap University, the maximum temperature rose to 36.2 degrees Celsius from 35.5 degrees Celsius, while Gurgaon AWS recorded 33.7 degrees Celsius against 33.5 degrees Celsius on Monday.

The weather department, however, has maintained a yellow alert for Wednesday and an orange alert for Thursday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph are likely on Thursday, according to the forecast.

IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall at isolated places on June 5 and 6, while rainfall activity is likely at a few places across the state on June 3 and 4.

Meteorologists attributed the expected change in weather to multiple systems influencing northwest India. An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over central Pakistan and adjoining northwest Rajasthan at around 0.9 km above mean sea level. In addition, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from June 3, increasing the likelihood of rain and thunderstorm activity across the region.

“There will be a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next two days, followed by a fall of 2-3 degrees Celsius during the subsequent three days,” IMD said.
