Yadav lodged a police complaint against the caller, who identified himself as Rishi, on Monday night. The man allegedly asked her to pay Rs 5 crore to clear her name in an alleged scam under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Faridabad. He contacted her again on March 4 and threatened her with dire consequences if she refused to pay, Yadav told police.

In her complaint, lodged at the Sector 50 police station, Yadav said that, “On March 3, the caller said a politician instructed him to contact me. The same person again contacted me on March 4 and threatened me, saying there would be consequences if I refused to pay the amount.”

Yadav said she is now concerned about the safety of her family members.

Police confirmed the matter in a press release, adding that they have registered an FIR against Rishi under sections 385 (putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to officials, the Haryana government recently granted permission to the ACB to investigate Yadav and seven other officials in an alleged scam in Faridabad. No more details about the scam are available.
