Woman dies of suspected dengue fever in Ponda
Vibha Tiwari, a native of UP who lived in Khadpabandh in Ponda, died of suspected dengue fever while being under treated at the GMC last week.
Tiwari first received treatment at Ponda sub district hospital, but as her condition worsened, she was referred to GMC.
Rupa Naik, director of health services, said Vibha Tiwari had co-morbidities. Her confirmatory test reports are awaited.
A group of councillors of Ponda municipal council on Wednesday requested the health officer to intensify awareness about dengue and said they would assist her.
Shaunak Borkar, a councillor for Khadpabandh, said his ward alone had six suspected dengue cases, while two have been cured. “ There’s likely to be more cases here. We want health department to intesify measures as people are worried after the death of Vibha Tiwari,” said Borkar.
As a preventive measure, the councillors and social workers have been getting fogging done across the town to curb further breeding of dengue mosquitoes. Borkar said the health officials must identify the sources of breeding of dengue fever.
Viraj Sapre, an activist, said he had written to the govt to clean Ponda nullahs portion of it has stagnant water.
