Pre-monsoon showers cause waterlogging in Mandrem
Mapusa: Pre-monsoon rainfall on Sunday led to severe waterlogging on Mandrem road at Junaswada in Mandrem, leaving motorists stranded and triggering chaos amongst the residents. The deluge served as warning of what lies ahead for the area if drainage issues left unaddressed.
Locals blame haphazard construction and state that stone fences are choking natural water outlets. A local complained that building construction next to the road, along with the stone walls is blocking the natural flow into the drainage system. They urge the authorities to come up with a permanent solution to prevent the recurring crisis.
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar and sarpanch Kiran Sawant mobilised emergency teams to clear blockages and drain accumulated water, successfully restoring traffic flow. “Public service is our priority. We urge owners to cooperate in water drainage efforts to ensure safety,” said Arolkar.
