Only one house will be razed for Borim bridge: WRD minister
Panaji: Minister for water resources Subhash Shirodkar said on Saturday that only one residential house will be demolished for the construction of the new Borim bridge.
“People had come to me saying that seven to eight houses would be demolished for the project, but this is not true,” the minister said.
“Whatever alignment has been identified is the best, saving everything except little fields on both sides. It is the most ideal approach for constructing the new bridge,” he added.
Clarifying on the need for a new bridge, Shirodkar said that the existing bridge could only last for five to ten years.
A section of the villagers of Loutolim and some locals of Borim have raised strong objections to the acquisition of land for the construction of the new Borim bridge. They claimed that their respective village panchayats were never informed about the proposed project and that the project consultant has not prepared any detailed project report.
They said that if the project materialises, then it will cause massive destruction to khazans, fisheries and local economies.
