Mass tree plantation drives by Navy and Coast Guard

Panaji: The Navy and Coast Guard undertook mass tree plantation drives in and around Vasco on Wednesday to mark World Environment Day. While the Navy tied up with the Bajaj Electrical Foundation under their CSR programme to plant saplings, the Coast Guard tied up with some local residents for a beach cleanup on the Hollant coast.

“Over the past few years, the Navy has planted more than 19,000 saplings in Goa. On Wednesday, an additional 1,800 saplings were planted across the Goa Naval Area. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the green cover, contributing to improved air quality and biodiversity. Various clean-up drives, awareness programs, procurement of e-vehicles, implementation of ‘no vehicle’ days, and other green initiatives are planned for this year,” said a Navy spokesperson.

The Navy said it remains steadfast in its commitment to environmental sustainability, addressing climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting ecological balance.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard organised a walkathon and tree plantation drive in Chicolna, Vasco, to spread awareness about the environment. Coast Guard personnel, along with the coast guard wives welfare association, security staff, civilians, and their families, planted more than 250 saplings.
