PANAJI: Goa Kala Academy staffers will soon be spotted pedaling away around Panaji with the office procuring five bicycles in a move to go eco-friendly.
"We have procured five bicycles under a new initiative to save fuel and we expect that the move will go a long way in reducing traffic congestion around the city in the long run, when the initiative is eventually extended further," Kala Academy chairperson Vishnu Surya Wagh told mediapersons on Tuesday.

Wagh informed that the procured cycles are 18 gear bicycles that cost 14,000 each.
"Work of delivery of letters, press notes to media offices, purchase of small items for Kala Academy events etc will be done by staffers using the bicycles within the city limits. At present, they have to use a motorcycle or scooters to move even within two or three kilometer distance," Wagh said.
He said that guards and staffers at Kala Academy will also be able to utilize the bicycles to move faster within the academy's campus.
"The bicycles have come with carriers which will allow staffers to carry minor items to and fro from the academy. They need not burn fuel to buy even these. Safety gear helmets and padded gear for the elbows and knees have also been procured for the staffers to wear while riding the bicycles," Wagh said.
