Luthra brothers detained in Thailand

Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, co-owners of “Birch by Romeo Lane” nightclub in Goa, were detained by Thai police in Phuket after fleeing India following the nightclub blaze that killed 25 people. They were located at a resort and taken into custody based on a request from Indian agencies.

Interpol Blue Notice fast-tracked

Goa Police, through MEA and CBI, sought Interpol’s help, leading to a Blue Corner Notice within two days—much faster than the usual week. The notice was issued to track the brothers’ movements and prevent them from escaping to another country while the investigation progressed.

Deportation process set in motion

Thai authorities confirmed that the brothers would be deported to India. A Goa Police team had already reached Thailand to take custody of the accused once the formalities were completed. India and Thailand’s existing extradition treaty enabled a smoother transfer.

Fire triggered by electric firecrackers

The blaze began around 11.45pm during an event attended by over 150 tourists. A preliminary probe found that electric firecrackers struck the wooden ceiling, causing flames to spread rapidly. While most escaped, many were trapped in the basement when the exit caught fire, leading to 25 deaths.

Passports flagged and immigration alerted

The regional passport office issued a notice to the brothers asking why their passports shouldn’t be impounded. Immigration records later revealed they had boarded a flight to Phuket early Sunday—just hours after the fire—triggering lookout circulars and searches at their Delhi premises.

More accused under scanner

Goa Police also issued lookout notices for UK national Surinder Kumar Khosla, owner of the property where the club operated, and Ajay Gupta, a partner in the business. Investigators continued tracing financial and operational links to determine accountability for the club’s safety lapses.
