Fire at Bordem flat, loss of Rs 15L reported

Bicholim: A major fire broke out in a flat at Siya Complex at Bordem, Bicholim, on Saturday morning. The fire team estimated a loss of Rs 15 lakh, but the flat owner Santosh Sutar claimed losses of around Rs 25 lakh. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Around 9.45am, a team of Bicholim firemen led by leading firefighter Rajan Parab, under the guidance of sub officer (SO) Shivaji Naik, rushed to the spot. However, the blaze was so intense that the crew could not enter the flat, prompting them to call for another fire tender.

Firemen fought for nearly 1.5 hours to bring the fire under control. Sutar said valuables such as gold ornaments, cash, electrical items, documents and other household items were gutted in the fire.
