Drunk lawyer kills 62-year-old Mapusa bizman in hit-and-run

PANAJI: Police arrested an advocate, Milind Naik Dessai, in a hit-and-run case in which a senior citizen, Pradeep Narvekar, 62, a resident of Guirim, died.

PSI Yeshwant Mandrekar said that around 11.30pm on Sunday, Narvekar, who owned a cold drink house in Mapusa, was proceeding from Panaji to Mapusa, and was hit by a four-wheeler going in the same direction.

After the accident, the driver of the car left the spot. Narvekar was immediately shifted to GMC, where he died undergoing treatment.

Police later identified the car and the owner of the car.

Doctors at GMC conducted the post-mortem examination and the body has been handed over to his family for final rites. Initially, Mapusa police registered the case under the MV Act, but later added Section 279 (rash driving) and 304A (death of a person by rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide) of the IPC, and Section 185 (driving by a drunken person) and other sections of the MVA. tnn
