Speaking to reporters, residents stated that despite issuing a stop work notice, the builder has been defiant and has violated all norms pertaining to the no-development zone. Following complaints from locals, the panchayat had issued a show cause notice, however, the reply from the opposite party was not satisfactory. Earlier, the panchayat had even called a joint inspection along with the town and country planning (TCP) department and the inspection had brought to the fore irregularities by the builder.
The builder has undertaken hill cutting using a excavator, flouting all the norms under CRZ rule, besides dumping of mud along the approach road. Locals said that during monsoon, the mud spills onto the road resulting in accidents involving two-wheelers as the road is frequented by tourists proceeding to Coco beach. Sarpanch of Reis Magos panchayat Shailendra Parulekar said that the panchayat had sent a stop work notice to the builder for not complying with the norms, and added that despite that, the work continued.
