CM seeks clarity over tax credit in GST council meet

Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant attended the 54th meeting of the GST council in Delhi on Monday where he sought clarity over the inputs tax credit being blocked for demo cars used by automobile dealers in Goa for test drivesby prospective customers. Sawant requested the council to issue a clarification and allow car dealers to claim inputs tax credit.

“After a detailed discussion, the GST council accepted this proposal and agreed to issue a suitable clarification to that effect for allowing this inputs tax credit on purchase of demo cars used for promoting sale of such vehicles. With this decisionof GST council, all authorised car dealers in Goa as well as all India will be benefited,” said the chief minister’s office in a statement.

The GST council meeting was chaired by Union finance and corporate affairs minister Niramala Sitharaman with chief ministers of other states also in attendance.

Sawant, who heads a group of ministers (GoM) that has been tasked with deliberating ways to boost the real estate sector, provided the GST council with a status report of deliberations undertaken so far.

“Sawant, as convener of this GoM, made a brief presentation before the GST council giving details of work done so far by the GoM and informing them that the next meeting of this GoM is fixed on Sep 24 in Goa for completing the task of giving relief to the real estate sector for boosting growth,” said the CMO. The CM said that several decisions taken by GST council at Monday’s meeting will benefit trade and industry, and help the business and economy to grow faster.The GoM is reportedly of the mind that the GST on housing should be kept to a minimum to ensure housing affordability for the common man.
