Candolim gram sabha rejects return of EDM fest

Calangute: Candolim gram sabha on Sunday adopted a resolution to oppose any proposal to hold the Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) festival at its old venue in Candolim.

Although no formal proposal has been made, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo recently suggested holding Sunburn in Candolim after it was opposed in other locations.

The event was held annually in Candolim before being moved to Vagator due to traffic and other issues.

Villagers also decided to hold a protest from the Calangute church to Calangute police station on Tuesday against the statements on St Francis Xavier made by Subhash Velingkar.

Villagers urged the panchayat to crack down on beachside hotels and resorts for allegedly clearing sand dune vegetation and illegal construction activities in the no-development zone.

The problems of stray dogs and cattle, and illegal parking were also discussed.

A resolution to renovate the Candolim panchayat ghar and football ground was adopted, while villagers raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order and illegal activities by beach touts.
