Augustine, Rowlin among FPAI’s Fans Player-of-the-Year shortlist

are among the 10 players who have been shortlisted by the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) for the coveted Fans Player-of-the Year Award 2016.

Football fans have been asked to cast their votes for the award on www.thefpai.net. Voting will be open until midnight on April 23 while the FPAI - Indian Football Awards 2016 will be held on April 25 in Mumbai.

The shortlist includes players plying their trade in the I-League and the Indian Super League (ISL), besides current Indian goalkeeper,

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu

, who has also found a mention in the list. Sandhu dons colours for Stabaek Fotball in Norway.

All other awards are chosen by the players, while the Fans Player-of-the Year Award is selected by the fans.

Augustine gave a good account of himself with Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) in the ISL and then returned to Salgaocar Sports Club for the I-League. Rowlin Borges, on the other hand, missed out on the ISL after none of the franchisees picked him up at the domestic draft but the talented midfielder is a favourite of India coach Stephen Constantine and remains the first choice defensive midfielder.

Rowlin, 23, is a regular with Sporting Clube de Goa and is touted as a player to watch out for in the future.

The nominees for the Fans Player-of-the-Year includes Augustine Fernandes (Salgaocar and Atletico de Kolkata), Chhuantea Fanai (Bengaluru FC and Mumbai City FC), Bikash Jairu (East Bengal and FC Pune City), Arata Izumi (Atletico de Kolkata and Mumbai FC), Debjit Majumdar (Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC), Aiborlang Khonjee (Shillong Lajong and North East United FC), David Lalrinmuana (Aizwal FC), Subrata Paul (Mumbai City FC and DSK Shivajians), Rowlin Borges (Sporting Clube de Goa) and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (Stabaek, Norway).
