4 arrested for running online gambling operation at Colva
Margao: Four people were arrested by Colva police for allegedly operating an online gambling racket from a residential premises at Florida Garden, Vanelim, in Colva on Saturday night.
Police sources said a team conducted a raid between 10.20pm on Saturday and 1am on Sunday and nabbed the accused redhanded while accepting online illegal bets.
The arrested people have been identified as Jiger Thakar, Dhaval Patel and Jay Patel, all residents of Florida Garden, and natives of Gujarat, and Vishal Chawla, a resident of the same premises and a native of Haryana.
Police said the accused were found involved in online gambling activities being run from the closed premises. During the raid, police seized two laptops, six cellphones and other online gambling-related articles, with the total value of seized material estimated at over Rs 3 lakh.
A case has been registered under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Prevention of Gambling Act (GDDPG Act).
