243 road accidents, 24 people killed in Goa in Dec 2024

Panaji: The year 2024 ended on a fatal note as 24 people lost their lives in road accidents in Dec. Of these, 16 were two-wheeler riders and five were pillion riders.

This was revealed in the directorate of transport’s monthly report on road accidents released on Wednesday. Dec 2024 saw a total of 243 road accidents, with 23 classified as fatal. North Goa reported 13 fatal accidents, while South Goa had 10.

In addition, 26 grievous accidents were recorded (10 in North Goa and 16 in South Goa), 35 minor accidents (10 in North Goa and 25 in South Goa), and 159 non-injury accidents (90 in North Goa and 69 in South Goa).

The report also highlights the number of injuries caused by these accidents.

A total of 24 people lost their lives, with 14 fatalities in North Goa and 10 in South Goa.

A breakdown of the fatal casualties shows that 16 were riders (9 in North Goa and 7 in South Goa), 5 were pillion riders (3 in North Goa and 2 in South Goa), one was a driver (North Goa), and two were pedestrians (1 in North Goa and 1 in South Goa).

The trend, however, has not been very different from the preceding months as two-wheeler riders continued to entail the highest number of victims of road fatalities in Goa.

A total of 241 road accidents took place in Nov wherein 16 persons were killed.
