2 remanded in cop custody over Fatorpa temple issue

Colva/Bicholim: Cuncolim police have arrested Shreya Dhargalkar and Namita Fatarpekar for their allegedly disparaging comments against the members of the temple management committee of Shree Shantadurga Kunkallkarin temple of Fatorpa. Police are on the lookout of Abhishek Naik for a similar offence.

Fartarpekar was remanded in three days police custody while Dhargalkar was admitted to the South Goa District Hospital after she complained of chest pain.

On Sunday, a crowd of people had blocked the Margao-Karwar highway demanding the arrest of the three. The controversy erupted following a social media post allegedly by the three claiming that some members of the temple management committee had harassed a woman over a property matter.

Earlier in the day, at least 300 people from Shirgao, including devotees of goddess Lairai, marched to the Bicholim police station demanding that Dhargalkar be arrested. They accused her of posting derogatory comments against the devotees of the goddess on social media.

Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye told the protesters that he had spoken to the police, and that a FIR would be registered against her.
