Anuj Prakash, a resident of Supertech Livingston in Crossings Republik, has a degree in mass communication from a Delhi institute and worked with some TV news channels, police said.

“In 2016, he went to Vietnam where he used to work with a recruitment agency. Towards the end of 2018, Anuj returned to India and from the next year, he got involved in criminal activities like duping people,” a police officer said.

He would introduce himself as an IPS officer and was even invited to his daughter’s school as a chief guest for its annual function in 2019. Police said, the school’s vice-principal is one of the victims and Anuj took Rs 3.9 lakh from the person with a promise of a job as a public relations officer at a government department.

Abhay Mishra, the circle officer and in-charge of the cyber cell said the matter came to light after retired major R Hudda, from Sector 9 in Vaishali, filed a police complaint alleging that Anuj had taken Rs 4.68 lakh from him in the name of providing him a job in Singapore.
