Ghaziabad: A city court on Friday convicted 15 people under the UP Gangster Act for the August 2016 attack on BJP functionary Brijpal Teotia. They are also under trial for an attempt to murder case related to the attack. On August 12 that year, attackers armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols cornered Teotia’s vehicle on Rawli Road, NH-58, in Ghaziabad and fired nearly 100 rounds.
Copshad said the attack was planned as revenge over personal enmity.
Special public prosecutor Varun Tyagi said on Friday that 16 accused were booked for attempt to murder and later a separate case was registered under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. “One of the accused died during the trial. On Friday, Neetu Pathak, additional district judge, held all the 15 accused persons guilty under the Gangster Act,” he said.
