FARIDABAD: A labourer has been arrested for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl and murdering her after she tried to raise the alarm.
Jitender (47) is from Agra and worked as a labourer with a private company. He was living alone in a rented house, police said.
The girl's family, which lived in the same locality, said she had gone missing around 4pm on Tuesday.
"After they couldn't find her anywhere, her father approached the police around 10pm. A police team reached the area and thoroughly searched neighbouring homes. They discovered the child's body in the accused's bathroom, stuffed inside a bag," police spokesperson Sube Singh said.
The child's body was sent to BK Hospital for an autopsy and forensics reports have revealed that she had been killed by slitting her throat with a sharp knife. The autopsy also revealed that she had been sexually assaulted.
"The accused was absconding. Police were able to trace him to Press Colony in Mujesar. When a police team went there to arrest him that same night, he attempted to flee. While trying to escape, Jitender slipped from the roof of a building and fell. He suffered minor injuries," Singh added.
Jitender was then admitted to the BK Hospital for treatment, following which he was arrested by the police.
An investigation revealed that Jitender took the child to his room with the intention of raping her. As she cried out in distress while he was sexually assaulting her, he slit her throat with a knife in a bid to silence her, cops said.
A case was registered against Jitender under IPC section 302 (murder) and Pocso Act at the Sector 58 police station.
