Erode farmer arrested 10 months after tusker was electrocuted

ERODE: Ten months after a wild elephant was electrocuted at Kovilnatham in Bargur forest range in Erode district, a local farmer was arrested on Friday for erecting the illegal electric fence that claimed the animal's life and for burying the elephant's body without anyone's knowledge.

Forest officials have dug out the skeletal remains of the elephant from the land adjoining the farm of the arrested farmer at Kovilnatham, where the animal was buried.

A forest officer identified the arrested person as M Sadayappan, 58, of the same locality. He said the incident came to light based on a specific tip that a wild elephant was buried in a poramboke land near Kovilnatham.
