Annamalai slams TN police for 'downplaying' petrol bomb incident

ERODE: BJP state president K Annamalai has hit out at the Tamil Nadu police for allegedly downplaying the petrol bomb incident at Raj Bhavan.

Addressing a gathering during his padayatra in Erode on Thursday, Annamalai said the DMK had reduced the position of Tamil Nadu police to a deplorable state. "The Chennai police commissioner says petrol bomb was hurled only outside the Raj Bhavan and not inside. Is this an achievement of the government, something to be proud of," he asked. Annamalai said the accused had hurled a petrol bomb in front of Raj Bhavan, and when security officers overpowered him, he hurled another one inside the gate. "But the commissioner is happy when he says no bomb was hurled inside. This is like stating someone was attacked with a knife, but he was not dead. This is the state of the TN police,'' he said.

Annamalai said police had come up with a similar statement during the Coimbatore car blast in front of Kottai Sangameswarar temple and chief minister M K Stalin argued that it was a cylinder explosion and not a bomb blast.

"However, the NIA subsequently unravelled a terrorist plot and arrested 13 suspects," he said. Annamalai said this was not the police department's fault. "It is the DMK government which has reduced police to this stage. DMK is ruining the police force," he said.
