Voter list: BJP, AAP fight over threat to EC officials
NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday accused AAP Rajya Sabha members Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha of "repeatedly threatening" Election Commission officials regarding the electoral roll of the New Delhi constituency and demanding "unconstitutional" changes in it.
AAP, however, claimed that BJP was "caught red-handed" attempting to manipulate voter lists, and there was undeniable proof leading to EC ordering an FIR.
Sachdeva alleged Chadha and Singh met EC officials a few times and demanded that the votes of Dhobi Ghat and Sarojini Nagar area be retained in the electoral roll despite the slum dwellers shifting out from the area 3-4 years ago. "The fear of Arvind Kejriwal getting defeated in the New Delhi constituency has left AAP in a state of panic," Sachdeva alleged. He also claimed that no person was staying in a particular staff quarter allotted to Singh, while the voters list had three names, and the BLOs had filed a written complaint about it.
AAP claimed that the individuals who submitted applications to delete the vote of Sanjay Singh's wife, Anita, were backed by BJP functionaries. "In Shahdara, a BJP functionary submitted 11,018 applications to delete votes, which was stopped after we raised our voice. BJP filed applications to delete 5,000 names and add 7,500 in the New Delhi Assembly constituency after the summary revision process closed," AAP claimed.
