Two found dead in Chajjupur; police suspect man ‘poisoned’ son before killing self
New Delhi: A 54-year-old man allegedly poisoned his 13-year-old son before allegedly dying by suicide at their home in northeast Delhi’s Chajjupur on Saturday morning, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Praveen Sharma and his son. Police received information about a suicide at Jyoti Nagar police station in the morning and reached the house in North Chajjupur.
Preliminary investigation suggests the father may have administered a poisonous substance to the child before taking his own life, police said. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after post-mortem.
Forensic teams examined the scene and collected evidence. The bodies have been sent for autopsy, and proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated.
Investigators said Sharma was undergoing separation from his wife, who lives in Ghaziabad. He had reportedly been unemployed for several years after an accident, although he had earlier worked in the IT sector.
According to police, Sharma lived with his son and was facing financial stress. The household was largely supported by his elderly father’s pension. Police suspect financial distress and personal difficulties may have led to the incident, though all angles are being examined.
Further investigation is underway.
