NEW DELHI: Mahilal is among half a dozen policemen who are battling Covid-19 due to their deployment in and around

Singhu border

, where farmers have been protesting against the recently passed farm laws. Earlier two IPS officers had tested Covid-positive, following which they were home quarantined.


Mahilal, who was deployed at a picked point, has been hospitalised and administered plasma twice. “ASI, Mahilal is admitted at a hospital in Prashant Vihar and has been administered plasma therapy. His condition is critical, but we all are praying for his he recovery. They were deployed at a picket closer to Delhi and not at the crowded Singhu border,” a cop said.

Earlier DCP (Outer-North) Gaurav Sharma, under whom the Singhu border area falls, had tested Covid-positive along with his additional DCP. The two were closely moving in the area and even interacting with the people. Apart from them, an inspector and an assistant sub-inspector from North-West district, who were also deployed at Singhu border, also tested positive for the virus.

So far 2,500 cops have tested Covid-positive, of them most have recovered and resumed work.
