PM will attend Sufi meet, say organisers

MUMBAI: In the fight against jihadist terror and in another attempt to reach out to Muslims, PM Narendra Modi will attend World Sufi Forum, a four-day global conference on Sufism, in New Delhi on March 17, its organisers have claimed.

The conclave will host 200 masters of Sufism, spiritual leaders and scholars. Modi will address the conference on the first day. Last August, Modi hinted at agreeing to attend such a function when a group of leading Sufis and Sunni clerics met him.

“We said Muslims who visit shrines of Sufis and shun extremism are in majority in India and we wanted to hold a global Sufi conference to denounce terrorism. He liked the idea,” said Hazrat Syed Mohd Ashraf, founder-president, All-India Ulama and Mashaikh Board, the conference organiser.
