NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister won New Delhi assembly constituency by defeating his nearest rival Sunil Yadav of BJP by a margin of 21,697 votes. Yadav polled 25,061 votes and Congress's Romesh Sabharwal could get only 3,220 votes.

* Arvind Kejriwal is ahead from the New Delhi seat.

In 2015 assembly elections, Kejriwal had defeated Nupur Sharma by securing 65% of the total votes cast.

The ruling party seeks a second term under the leadership of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. AAP has given tickets to 46 of its sitting MLAs besides introducing 15 new faces to the fray.

The BJP is contesting on 67 of the 70 assembly seats, leaving two seats for its National Democratic Alliance partner the Janata Dal (United) and one for the Lok Janshakti Party. Among the 67 BJP candidates, over 30 are former legislators or have contested the assembly elections in the past.

The Congress, which ruled Delhi for three consecutive terms from 1998 to 2013, is for the first time contesting the Delhi assembly polls in alliance with another party. The party has worked an alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) who will contest on four seats.
