NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old man allegedly stabbed his younger brother to death with a pair of scissors for fat-shaming him in northeast Delhi’s

Nand Nagri

on Friday. He later tried to pass it off as an accident, claiming that the scissors had fallen on his brother’s chest and pierced it.

Police said the accused, Nizam, almost managed to convince the investigators, but for his three-year-old son blurting out that his father and uncle,

Arif

, were having a fight in the house. DCP (northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur confirmed the developments.

A police officer said they received a call about a 25-year-old man dying of injuries to his chest at a hospital. Family members of the deceased told them that Arif had died after a pair of scissors fell on him. The victim’s elder brother, Nizam, told cops that when he returned home from work, he found Arif lying on the floor and rushed him to hospital. He said Arif was probably trying to pick something from the upper shelf when the “accident” happened.

The investigating team, led by ACP Nand Nagri Anand Mishra, was not convinced, but other family members also gave the same response. The body was shifted to mortuary and sent for autopsy. The medico-legal report pointed to death by severe wounds on chest. Preliminary medical examination stated that such deep injuries could have been be caused only by use of force. As a result, police resumed the inspection of the victim’s home. They recreated the incident and concluded that death couldn’t have taken place from the scissors falling from a height.

Their doubts were confirmed when Nizam’s three-year-old son claimed that his father was not only present in the house at the time of the incident, but also saw him hitting Arif.

On sustained questioning, Nizam admitted to killing Arif as the latter used to make fun of him for being “fat”.
