Man shot dead at wedding function in Delhi over suspected affair with accused’s wife; cop among 3 held
NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police head constable and two other men have been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a 30-year-old man after a dispute at a wedding function in north Delhi’s Wazirabad area, officials said on Monday.
The accused head constable, identified as Parvesh, was posted with the Traffic Unit in the northeast district’s Bhajanpura circle and had joined the force in 2008.
Police said the Wazirabad police station received information that a man with a gunshot wound had been admitted to the Trauma Centre in Timarpur. However, doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Upon reaching the hospital, the investigating officer found that the injured man, identified as Ashish from Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh, had been brought in by his younger brother, Anuj. Doctors declared Ashish dead, police said.
In his statement, Anuj told police that he, along with his brother and other acquaintances, had attended a neighbour’s wedding in Wazirabad. He added that Ashish was employed as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in the Enforcement Department.
Anuj further alleged that Parvesh, who hails from the same native village, had attended the function with his brother Sandeep and brothers-in-law Vipin and Vikash. According to him, Parvesh suspected that his wife was involved in a relationship with Ashish, which had led to hostility between them.
"Three to four months ago, Parvesh had complained to our father regarding the matter. Though the issue was resolved at that time, he continued to threaten my brother," Anuj said in his statement.
He alleged that when they were about to leave for their village after the function, Parvesh and his associates intercepted Ashish, assaulted him with the butt of a pistol and subsequently shot him in the chest. The accused fled the spot after the incident.
Ashish was initially taken to a nearby private facility, from where he was referred to the Trauma Centre and succumbed to his injuries, police said.
A crime team along with a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit examined the scene and collected relevant evidence. A case was registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Arms Act.
During the course of the investigation, Parvesh, his brother Sandeep, and his brother-in-law Vipin were arrested.
Police said the licensed pistol allegedly used in the crime has been recovered, while another accused, Vikash, remains absconding.
