Main accused in Golf Links robbery held
New Delhi: The crime branch has arrested the main accused who, along with his associates, took a businessman and his family hostage and robbed them at their home in Golf Links in April.
The armed robbery was reported on April 17, when the family’s help, Sushil, had employed only four-five days ago, facilitated the entry of five-six accomplices, who looted jewellery, cash and other valuables. A case was registered, and three accused were arrested earlier. A few are still absconding.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said main accused Hasan was arrested after police received information that he would come to meet an associate in northeast Delhi’s Khajuri. "A trap was laid and he was arrested. He said the gang used to recce affluent residential colonies and identify vulnerable targets,” Yadav said.
According to police, the gang had placed Sushil to gather information about the daily routine and movement of family members, the location of valuables and cash, and the security arrangements at the house. He gained the trust and confidence of the family while familiarising himself with the layout of the house and internal arrangements, and passing on crucial information to his associates, they added.
The gang members entered the house armed with swords, iron rods and other weapons, and overpowered the occupants by threatening and assaulting them, investigators said, adding that the gang executed the robbery swiftly and escaped before anybody could react.
According to investigators, Hasan has a long criminal history and has been involved in at least 20 criminal cases related to robbery, dacoity, theft and violations of Arms Act, registered in different parts of Delhi and neighbouring areas. Police said he had already been convicted in seven cases. Hasan was last released on bail on May 13, 2025, and had allegedly resumed criminal activities. Investigators also claimed that he was disowned by his family members due to his criminal activities.
