Kirori Mal College

's film society, Montage, will pay tribute to the late Om Puri through their film festival.

Mise-en-scène

, the society’s film fest, which will be held from March 6-7, will showcase some of the actor’s most celebrated films and conduct talks and discussions about his impact on Indian cinema.

Shah Haris, president of the society, says, "Our festivals are always based on a current situation. In 2015, our festival had celebrated 100 years of

Charlie Chaplin

. We couldn't organize one last year, so this year, while drawing up plans, we always knew that we would pay tribute to Om Puri ji. Even the Oscars this year paid a tribute to him and it’s a shame that mainstream Bollywood award shows haven't. As a film society, we felt it that was our responsibility to pay homage to someone who has contributed so much to Indian and world cinema."

The festival will screen some of his landmark movies like 'Sadgati' and 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro', and will have an exhibition showcasing some unseen pictures from his film and theatre days in a gallery. "There will also be a talk session on Om Puri and New Wave Indian Cinema, along with a discussion on his career with Jai Arjun Singh, who wrote a bestselling book on the making of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro," says Haris.

The festival will also pay homage to another recently deceased cinema great, Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, by screening his critically acclaimed film 'Taste Of Cherry'. The Iranian film, 'The Salesman', which was recently adjudged the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars, will also be screened.
