NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University witnessed a total shutdown on Thursday as students boycotted classes in response to JNU Students’ Union’s call for a day-long strike demanding action against cases of sexual harassment on the campus.
The students’ body is alleging that the university administration is bent on scuttling Gender Sensitization Committee against Sexual Harassment’s verdict indicting a JNU faculty member for sexual harassment.

It has been alleged JNU administration has not taken action despite the verdict in the case involving a JNU faculty member based on a complaint filed by a PhD student.
“What we are seeing is a well-orchestrated game plan to scuttle the verdict and avoid its execution,” said Anubhuti, JNUSU vice-president. “JNU EC in 2013 stated it could not act because it had not read the verdict! And now , it tried to decide the matter through a vote in EC and by forming a committee to look into the GSCASH recommendations,” she said.
“This sets a dangerous precedent whereby EC can step in to get rid of a GSCASH verdict where an influential person is involved,” Akbar Chawdhary, president, JNUSU, said.
