IndiGo launches 35 flights from new T1 building
New Delhi: IndiGo started operating 35 flights from the new building of Terminal 1 at IGI Airport on Monday. Officials said flight operations were smooth at T1, which has now seen a partial shifting of SpiceJet and IndiGo flights. The first IndiGo flight to depart from the new T1 was flight 6E 449 for Mumbai around 5 am. The new building became operational on Aug 17 after SpiceJet shifted its 13 flights here. However, the old building of T1, where the canopy at the forecourt collapsed on June 28, continues to be cordoned off.IndiGo said it was operating 35 departures daily from Terminal 1 and had taken proactive measures to inform passengers about this transition. "Domestic flights with flight numbers 2000-2999 will operate from Terminal 2 and flight numbers 5000 to 5999 will operate from Terminal 3, and the rest of the flights will operate from Terminal 1," said IndiGo in a statement.Following the canopy collapse incident, all operations from T1 were suspended from June 28, with IndiGo and SpiceJet moving their flights to T2 and T3. T1, which caters only to these two airlines, became operational again on Aug 17 after SpiceJet shifted its 13 flights to the new T1. The old T1 building, from departure gates 1 to 4, remains inaccessible to passengers. "Flight operations were smooth after 35 IndiGo departures were shifted to the new T1 from Monday," said an airport official.Passengers flying IndiGo will need to enter the new terminal through entry gates 5 and 6 on the first floor. Passengers flying SpiceJet will enter through entry gate A on the ground floor. All passenger arrivals will take place through dedicated arrival gates on the ground floor. The expansion of T1 began in 2019 to make Delhi airport future-ready. This expansion was part of the Master Plan 2016 as the airport witnessed a massive surge in Air Traffic Movements and passenger numbers, exceeding projections. To assist passengers, Delhi International Airport Limited has introduced an innovative Queue-Buster Mobile Check-in Service at the new terminal to avoid long queues at counters. Other features include the Automated Tray Retrieval System , Individual Carrier System , Common Usage Self Service, aerobridges, check-in counters, and self baggage drop kiosks.
