Hyundai i20 explodes in Delhi, Swift Dzire found with explosives in Faridabad: Are the two linked?

Investigators suspect a connection between the Red Fort blast and the Faridabad explosives case. A Hyundai i20 exploded in Delhi, killing 12, while a Swift Dzire loaded with explosives was recovered in Faridabad. Both vehicles are believed to be part of the same terror module, with absconding suspect Dr. Umar under scrutiny.

Twelve people were killed and several others injured after a Hyundai i20 exploded near the Red Fort. The high-intensity blast occurred at a traffic signal on Subhash Marg, damaging nearby vehicles and spreading panic in the national capital.

Agencies are probing whether Dr Umar, an absconding suspect in the Faridabad explosives case, was inside the i20 at the time of the blast. His links to the Faridabad module have come under scrutiny, though police said DNA tests would confirm the deceased’s identity.

A case under Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA and the Explosives Act has been registered at Kotwali Police Station. FSL and NIA teams are on-site collecting forensic evidence. Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that all agencies are jointly monitoring the investigation.

Nearly 200 police personnel are examining over 100 CCTV clips from Delhi’s Outer Ring Road, Badarpur border, and Kashmere Gate to track the i20’s movement. Footage is being studied to trace all possible routes and identify those connected to the car.

Investigations revealed that the i20 had been parked for nearly two hours at the Sunheri Masjid parking lot before being driven out and detonated. CCTV footage showed the car entering and exiting alone, raising suspicions of a timed or remotely triggered device.

Faridabad police recovered a white Swift Dzire packed with explosives, believed to be linked to the same terror module behind the Red Fort blast. The discovery was made during an anti-terror sweep after Delhi authorities raised an alert post-explosion.

Preliminary findings suggest the Swift Dzire and the Delhi i20 may have been part of a coordinated terror plan. Investigators believe the Faridabad vehicle was meant for a second strike but was abandoned after heightened police checks in the NCR region.

Bomb disposal units secured the Faridabad Swift Dzire and recovered explosive materials, detonators, and a remote-triggering device. Samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory to identify the explosive type and trace its source. Central agencies are assisting in the analysis.

Sources revealed that Dr Umar, a doctor from India and key suspect, was linked to both the i20 blast and the Faridabad explosives case. He has been absconding since the earlier seizure, and investigators are working to confirm if he perished in the Delhi explosion.

The Delhi Police, Haryana Police, and NIA have launched a joint operation to trace other members of the module. Raids are being conducted in multiple NCR locations. Investigators suspect that both vehicles were part of a larger terror network operating across state borders.
