Opening timeline & readiness

The 213-km Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor is likely to open after the first week of February. While most stretches are complete, workers are finishing pit stops, toilets, shoulders and structures to ensure commuter convenience from day one.

2/10

Faster travel, lower cost

Once operational, the corridor will cut Delhi–Dehradun travel time to under three hours by car. With a FASTag annual pass, commuters can pay just ₹60 one way across four toll plazas; others may pay around Rs 500.

3/10

Access-controlled experience

Though it starts at Akshardham, controlled access truly begins after Loni. Initial stretches still see mixed traffic and congestion near Akshardham Metro, but the main corridor offers smoother, safer, access-controlled movement.

4/10

Farmer demands shape design

Powerful sugarcane farmers influenced key design changes. Underpasses were raised, such as at Karaunda Mahajan in Muzaffarnagar, where road elevation was increased to 5.5 metres to allow overloaded tractors to pass.

5/10

Local protests & adjustments

In Saharanpur’s Badgaon, local protests led to an additional interchange. Elsewhere, extra land acquisition and coordination with irrigation and power projects caused delays but helped bring local communities on board.

6/10

Near-complete construction

NHAI reports over 99% physical progress across all four phases. Remaining works, including interchange finishing and minor civil tasks, are expected to be completed within about 10 days before full opening.

7/10

Superior ride quality

The six-lane highway offers noticeably better ride quality than older expressways. Roads were laid well before the last monsoon to allow settling, and close monitoring by top management ensured higher construction standards.

8/10

Four-phase corridor plan

Phase I (31.6 km) from Akshardham to EPE is brownfield and elevated. Phase II (120 km) to Saharanpur is greenfield. Phase III (42 km) to Ganeshpur is complete, while Phase IV enters Dehradun.

9/10

Wildlife & environmental care

The Dehradun stretch passes through Rajaji National Park and an elephant corridor. Construction faced restrictions on night work and monsoon stoppages, but includes elevated roads, wildlife monitoring, and special lighting to reduce disturbance.

10/10

Future connectivity plans

Beyond this corridor, NHAI is planning two new road corridors to improve connectivity towards Mussoorie and Paonta Sahib, aiming to further ease travel in Uttarakhand’s key tourist and pilgrimage regions.
