4 cops rescue 60-yr-old woman from fire in bldg

New Delhi: A 60-year-old woman, trapped in her fire-stricken residence in northwest Delhi's Keshavpuram, was rescued by four policemen on Sunday. Three cops sustained injuries during the rescue operation. A gas cylinder leak sparked fire, police said.Police received information about the fire in a C block building of Keshavpuram at 12.38am. After arriving at the scene, sub-inspector Naveen Kumar and head constables Anish Kumar, Narendra Kumar and Amit Kumar rushed to the fourth floor, where Saroj Mahajan was trapped inside a flat. They rescued her before tackling the fire engulfing a gas cylinder."Due to the smoke, the woman was unable to breathe or move; she was taken out of the flat by cops and other residents helped her to come out of the building," a police officer said. She was rushed to hospital where she was receiving treatment.Three head constables, who received injuries during the rescue operation, were also taken to hospital, the officer said.The woman was staying alone in the rented accommodation on fourth floor of the building after her husband’s death. Her daughter lives in the neighbourhood, whereas her son resides in Shakarpur.Later, the station house officer and 12 police personnel evacuated the affected building and nearby structures and cordoned off the area. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and they doused the fire in nearly two hours.
