NEW DELHI: A court on Thursday sent AAP's communications in-charge, Vijay Nair, to judicial custody till October 20 in a case related to the now-scrapped excise policy of the Delhi government and businessman Sameer Mahendru, an accused in a related case, to four days of enforcement directorate (ED) custody.

Special judge M K Nagpal issued the order related to Nair after CBI submitted that it didn't need his further remand. "An application has been moved by the investigating officer now for sending the accused to the judicial custody for 14 days," the judge said, remanding him in judicial custody as the investigation has been still pending.

An FIR was registered after lieutenant governor V K Saxena recommended a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. CBI has alleged Nair was involved in meeting co-accused and liquor manufacturers as well as distributors at different hotels in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi.

Remanding Mahendru in ED's custody, the court observed that a case of money laundering was a complicated affair and required investigations on various aspects, including the money trail and the people involved. It allowed Mahendru, who was arrested by ED under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, to meet his mother and wife daily for 15 minutes between 6pm and 7pm on "humanitarian grounds".
