GRAP-3 Implementation in Delhi NCR

Starting from 8 am on Friday, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 3 will be in place across Delhi NCR due to 'severe' air quality. This will impose stricter measures to tackle pollution.

2/7

Key restrictions under GRAP-3

Under GRAP-3, all private construction and demolition work is banned, along with non-essential mining operations. This aims to reduce pollution from dust and construction activities.

3/7

Public transport services

Delhi Metro will operate 20 additional trips starting at 8 am, in addition to the 40 trips already in place. This will help reduce private vehicle use and promote public transport.

4/7

Impact on schools and vehicles

All primary schools (classes I-V) in Delhi will shift to online classes due to worsening air quality. Additionally, BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles are restricted from the roads in Delhi NCR.

5/7

Smog and fog contributing to pollution

Dense fog and low wind speeds are trapping pollutants over Delhi, pushing the Air Quality Index (AQI) into the 'severe' category. The PM2.5 levels are especially high, making the air hazardous.

6/7

Major sources of pollution

Transport is the biggest contributor to pollution in Delhi, accounting for 12.24% of PM2.5 emissions, followed by residential areas, nearby cities, and industrial pollution.

7/7

Forecast for air quality

The AQI in Delhi is expected to remain in the 'very poor' category from November 15 to 17, with air quality improving slightly only in the long term, as per the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology.
