Cong unlikely to reach double digits, claims exit polls not accurate

New Delhi: Exit poll projections suggest that Congress faces an uphill comeback battle in this election, despite its eleventh-hour effort.Even with the potential of victory in two or three constituencies, the key question that remains is if the party will revive its vote share in the assembly.Abhishek Dutt, the party's candidate from the Kasturba Nagar assembly constituency, dismissed the exit poll numbers. He spoke about a stronger ground-level performance. "People have seen through AAP's failures, and the party's convener Arvind Kejriwal is no longer the popular face of Delhi. Also, in my constituency, there is a direct fight between Congress and BJP, so the question of cutting AAP's votes doesn't arise," he said.Haroon Yusuf, a former minister in Delhi govt, also said that each Congress candidate had made his/her best effort and the ground reports show that Congress will revive. "In each of our meetings, we saw an energetic crowd in huge numbers. We are pretty sure that people are fed up with AAP and will vote for us," he said.A Congress official said that securing minority votes could result in 8-9 seats for Congress. Without that support, 2-3 candidates might win. The party is optimistic about seats such as Nangloi, Badli and Kasturba Nagar.Another Congress official said: "In this fight, voters didn't take our guarantees seriously. Even in minority areas, people still lack confidence that we will make a govt.... However, if AAP as a party or any of its senior functionaries loses, such as Kejriwal from New Delhi or former minister Manish Sisodia from Jangpura, then the roads will be open for Congress again," he said.All Congress leaders dismissed the possibility of joining forces with AAP. "Some candidates started campaigning two or three months ahead.
