NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a meeting on Sunday to prepare for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. The gathering was attended by key leaders, including Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva.

The Delhi assembly elections are anticipated to take place in early 2025, though the Election Commission has not yet confirmed the dates.

On November 21, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unveiled its initial list of 11 candidates for the elections, which are expected early next year. The list includes names for constituencies such as Chhatarpur, Kiradi, Vishwas Nagar, Rohtash Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Badarpur, Seelampur, Seemapuri, Ghonda, Karawal Nagar, and Matiala.

The candidates named by AAP are Brahm Singh Tanwar for Chhatarpur, Anil Jha for Kiradi, Deepak Singla for Vishwas Nagar, Sarita Singh for Rohtash Nagar, BB Tyagi for Laxmi Nagar, Ram Singh Netaji for Badarpur, Chaudhary Zubair Ahmad for Seelampur, Veer Singh Dhingan for Seemapuri, Gaurav Sharma for Ghonda, Manoj Tyagi for Karawal Nagar, and Sumesh Shokeen for Matiala.

The list includes BJP defectors Brahm Singh Tanwar, Anil Jha, and BB Tyagi, along with former Congress members Chaudhary Zubair Ahmad, Veer Singh Dhinghan, and Sumesh Shokeen.

Tickets were not given to three sitting AAP MLAs: Gulab Singh Yadav from Matiala, Rituraj Jha from Kiradi, and Abdul Rehman from Seelampur.

Meanwhile, Kartar Singh Tanwar, the former AAP MLA from Chhatarpur who recently joined the BJP, was disqualified from his position.

In the previous assembly elections held in February 2015, AAP secured a resounding victory, winning 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP managed to win only 8, while Congress failed to secure any seats.
