4th cutoff may see options shrink for aspirants

NEW DELHI: At the

end

of the

admissions

under the

third cutoff

, many

popular courses

are likely to be

closed

in some of the prominent colleges in Delhi University.

Most colleges like SRCC, LSR, Hindu have already closed admissions in some of their popular courses; and when the

fourth list

comes out on

Friday

, there will be fewer options. The third cutoff admissions ended on Wednesday after DU extended it by a day following a server glitch. Many took advantage of the decision and turned up to secure a DU seat.

“I was unable to get my documents verified due to the server problem in the past two days,” said Shreya Mishra, a candidate from Faridabad got admitted at Daulat Ram College in BCom on Wednesday. A few students also came hoping to find some vacant seats. Ritu, who has scored 86% in CBSE, was desperate to bag a DU seat, but was denied admission at Miranda House in Hindi (H). “I don’t care about colleges, I just want an admission in DU.”

Like last year, the fourth list is likely to see a dip of not more 0.25% points from the third list, said a college principal. While the highest cutoff in the last year’s list was 97.75% for psychology at LSR, the course is already closed this year. Psychology is also unavailable in many other colleges, including Aryabhatta. Rajesh Diwedi, its admission convener, said, “This year we kept most of the cutoffs reasonable.”

Economics, English and BCom (programme as well as honours) are also likely to be closed at many popular colleges.
