DEHRADUN: A 26-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped by a scrap dealer and his three friends after threatening her husband at gunpoint. Though the crime took place on July 26, a case was registered only on Monday evening following a local court’s order. The accused are currently on the run.

According to police, the scrap dealer was known to the woman -- who works at a factory in Haridwar’s industrial estate -- and had been forcing her into a physical relationship. On July 26, when the woman was on her way to the market with her husband and son, four men, led by the main accused Usman, waylaid them and abducted her after pointing a gun at her husband. The four then put a piece of cloth soaked in chloroform on her face and when she became unconscious, they gangraped her, claimed the woman in her complaint. The accused then dumped her at a secluded place.

On regaining her senses, she somehow managed to reach home and narrated the ordeal to her husband.

When the couple went to the police station to lodge a complaint, the cops turned them away. The woman then approached the court seeking justice following which it ordered Haridwar's Sidcul police station to take necessary legal steps. A case of gang-rape and criminal intimidation was then registered by the police.

Inspector Pramod Uniyal, in-charge of Sidcul police station, said, "According to the woman's complaint, on July 26 evening, she was going to a market with her husband and son when four men, led by one Usman (main accused), waylaid them. They put a piece of cloth soaked in chloroform on her face. After assaulting her sexually, they dumped her near a school." Uniyal added the main accused continued to threaten her with dire consequences. "We will nab all the accused soon," the inspector said.
