DEHRADUN: The health department has launched a door-to-door screening to identify tuberculosis (TB) patients in Uttarakhand under an ambitious bid to become a TB-free state by 2024. Under the first phase, the door-to-door screening will be conducted in six districts - Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Uttarkashi.
The initiative, launched on Monday for the six districts, will continue till December 20.
The screening aims to take all the lower income strata such as labourers and vendors in the loop and take their help in identification of tuberculosis patients. Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat told the media that the central government has set a target for state health authorities to identify 28,000 TB patients this year.
"The state aims to become TB-free by 2024," he added. Recently, Rawat announced that 15,000 TB patients of Uttarakhand will be taken care of by public servants and public representatives.
