First visuals

In a major relief to the families of the 41 workers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel, the rescue teams released the first video of them on Tuesday. The workers have been trapped inside the tunnel for the last 10 days.

Families relieved

"We are hopeful but will be satisfied once we get to speak to him," said a member of the family of a worker after the first visuals surfaced.

Supply line created

In a significant development on Monday, the rescue teams managed to successfully create an additional supply line by inserting a six-inch diameter pipe through the debris to the other side to send food items.

First hot meal of khichdi

The workers were able to have their first hot meal of khichdi for the first time in 10 days, which was sent to them packed in bottles. They were also sent packets of dry fruit and some fresh oranges.

'Please take us out'

During the conversation, Akhilesh Kumar, one of the trapped workers from UP, said, "We are getting food, but all of us are in bad condition. What is the progress of the rescue work? Please take us out quickly. It is getting harder and harder with each passing day." Kumar also pleaded with the official to
evacuate them at the earliest.

NHIDCL director says

We have achieved our first breakthrough. The 53m-long pipe is a veritable lifeline. We were trying to do this for the last nine days. This will enable us to send nutritious and larger quantities of food and other essentials like medicines in. We’ll also be able to improve ventilation, said NHIDCL director Anshu Manish Khalkho.
