Uttarakhand BJP banks of Narendra Modi charisma to swing voters in its favour

DEHRADUN: Bereft of a prominent local face, the Uttarakhand BJP is counting heavily on the charisma of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to scrape through the state polls. The saffron party has organised back-to-back four rallies of the Prime Minister in the state.

Even though the star campaigner list has 40 leaders, BJP insiders admit that Modi’s rallies would be the “game-changer” in the election.
After much brainstorming, senior BJP leaders have selected four strategically important venues for maximum impact of the Modi rallies.

The first rally is scheduled on February 10 in Haridwar, for which the party has marshalled all the available resources to make it a grand success.
“Haridwar rally is expected to swing the voters in all the seats in the favour of BJP. Similarly, Rudrapur rally will have a direct effect on all the seats of Udham Singh Nagar,” said BJP media in-charge

Davender Bhasin

.
The decision makes sense since the two districts-- Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar-- have 20 seats.

The success of PM’s Dehradun rally encouraged the saffron party to hold more such rallies during the election campaign.
Telling about the other star campaigners, Bhasin said that actress Hema Malini would be in Uttarakhand on February 11 and 12.

“BJP president Amit Shah has three public meetings on February 7, in Ghansali, Pauri and Ram Nagar. BJP insiders admit that since the party has not projected any CM candidate, PM Modi is the mainstay in the election campaign.

“The overall narrative has been confined to a tag line that Atal Bihari Vajpayee formed Uttarakhand and now Modi will develop it. Now, this leaves little room for anything else,” said a BJP leader on condition of anonymity.
