Father, son killed in wasp attack in Tehri

Dehradun: A 47-year-old man and his eight-year-old son died on Sunday after being stung by wasps in Tuneta village in Jaunpur block of Tehri Garhwal. They were grazing cattle near the forest when the incident occurred, said Govind Singh, the village head of Tuneta.Villagers took Sunderlal and his son Abhishek to a govt hospital in Mussoorie, but they succumbed to the venom. Singh said, "The father died while trying to protect his son, shielding him and taking the attack on himself, but neither survived. The father passed away in the evening."He added, "Abhishek had responded well to treatment, and we even brought him home, but suddenly, around midnight, he also died."Sunderlal, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked as a daily wage labourer under the MGNREGA scheme. He is survived by his wife and two children.Earlier this year, Uttarakhand's forest department had announced that ex-gratia compensation would be provided to victims of bee and wasp stings, similar to those affected by human-wildlife conflicts.
