DEHRADUN: The BJP has elevated sitting MLA from Chaubattakhal

Rawat to the post of national general secretary on Saturday. The announcement was made in the presence of finance minister Arun Jaitley who was in the hill capital to release the party’s vision document.

Rawat was sulking after he was denied ticket so that Satpal Maharaj could contest from the Chaubattakhal constituency. Talking to TOI, Rawat said, “I have been a soldier of the party all my life and will continue to work for the improvement of the state and the party.”

Maharaj has been campaigning in the constituency and is locked in a battle with Congress candidate

. After his elevation, Rawat is expected to join Maharaj to campaign in the seat.

Rawat, known to be a loyalist of former CM BC Khanduri was the party’s state chief until last year.. “Even at that time there were rumours that he was upset at not been given extension as the state president,” said a BJP leader on condition of anonymity.
