Stop all construction in Sukhatal bed area: Uttarakhand HC

NAINITAL: The Uttarakhand high court, hearing the matter of illegal construction in the Sukhatal lake, the division bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice R C Khulbe issued notices to State Environment Impact Assessment Authority and State Wetlands Management Authority.


The Court has directed the State to stop all construction activities in Sukhatal lake bed area. The court fixed December 20 for next hearing. Dr Kartikey Hari Gupta, amicus curiae, informed the court that as per the hydrological studies, Sukhatal is a major source of water recharge for Nainital lake.


However, ignoring all scientific reports, a project report was prepared by IIT-Roorkee for so called beautification of the area. The report is faulty and cannot be relied upon, he said.
